Open Doors

  • The Gifted Education program (Open Doors) is for intellectually gifted students in grades 2-6.  The purpose of the Gifted Education program is to identify and serve gifted students in a uniquely qualitatively differentiated program not available in the regular classroom. Gifted education courses provide instruction in creativity, thinking skills, research, creative problem solving, communication, leadership, group dynamics, and self-knowledge in order to increase students’ skill and capacity for autonomous learning, metacognition, and self-understanding

The Gifted Program at Smith is led by Mrs. E. Woods. Mrs. Woods provides a variety of educational activities and projects that deepen student learning. Here are a few of the activities that the Open Doors students participate in.

S.H.O.P. Students Helping Others Planetwide(SHOP) is a service project in which the Open Doors students select a community service project that they would like to raise awareness. The students selected to research and raise awareness through donations to help the Mississippi Food Network this year.
